"My husband's in the hospital and I have no way to get there. Can you give me a ride?"

I'll be away for several days and my elderly mother needs someone to check in on her. Can you Help?"

"My friend has been in an auto accident and her family needs help getting the children to school and basketball. Do you think we can lend a hand?"

"I haven't seen Fred in church lately. Should we give him a call to see how he's getting along?"

The Caring Committee answers all of these questions with an enthusiastic "YES". Here's who we are and what we do...

What Are We?

The Caring Committee supplements the minister's pastoral work by reaching out to parishioners in times of illness or transiting. Just as you might hope to receive help from the church community when a need arises in your life, other parishioners hope you will be willing to offer assistance whenever you can. This willingness to help is key to our community life at First Parish.

How it Works

The committee maintains a list of church members and friends who are willing to offer many types of assistance as needed.

Parish Outreach

The committee coordinates visits, telephone calls, and cards for parishioners who are housebound, hospitalized, in nursing homes, or are generally in need of support.

About Meals:

The committee maintains a small supply of stocked meals, and coordinates volunteers who make and deliver meals to parishioners in need.

About Transportation:

The committee coordinates rides to church and other emergency transportation as needed.

About Errands:

The committee arranges volunteers to do errands such as grocery shopping or trips to the local pharmacy on an as-needed basis.

About Emergency Childcare:

Short-term childcare may be available.

Asking for Assistance:

To inquire about assistance for yourself or another parishioner, speak with the minister or any member.

About Respite Care:

Short-term respite care is available to allow caregivers time to run errands, keep appointments and conduce personal business.

About Memorial Services:

The committee will assist other church members with the planning and preparation of receptions following memorial services.
