“If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife, the results might be something close to the great Vance Gilbert", says Richmond Magazine.
First Parish UU Church of Kennebunk is pleased to welcome Vance Gilbert for a special solo concert in our historic sanctuary on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
A beloved presence in the national folk scene, Vance Gilbert brings together expressive vocals, masterful acoustic guitar, quick wit, and deeply human storytelling. His music moves easily through folk, R&B, jazz, and Americana influences, creating the kind of live performance that is heartfelt, funny, surprising, and memorable.
Richmond Magazine once wrote, “If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife, the results might be something close to the great Vance Gilbert.” The Fort Worth Star-Telegram praised him as having “the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god.”
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Gilbert has recorded numerous albums, toured with Shawn Colvin, and shared stages with artists including Arlo Guthrie, Anita Baker, The Milk Carton Kids, Southside Johnny, George Carlin, and Paul Reiser. His newest work continues to showcase the warmth, humor, and musical range that have made him a favorite among folk and acoustic music audiences.
